Special Needs/IEPs

“Some of the most wonderful people are the ones who don’t fit into boxes.”  – Tori Amos

Education should not be a one-size-fits-all approach. There are countless students in Ontario and around the world who benefit from non-traditional approaches to learning. Educators must be flexible enough to adapt their methodologies and teaching tactics to keep exceptional students engaged, confident and committed to learning.

In the Ontario education system, students who have been identified as “exceptional” require Individual Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure they receive special accommodation and additional resources to facilitate learning. Parents and students often find IEPs difficult to decode and advocate for. The process of obtaining and implementing an IEP can add needless anxiety and stress for students and parents alike, and can often be tied in with a student’s self-image and academic confidence.

We at Arcanum boast a long track record of working with families of students of all stripes. We have worked with students contending with both physical and cognitive academic challenges. Through the years, we have developed innovative approaches to supplementing traditional classroom learning with additional one-on-one support specifically tailored to the needs of each particular student.
